Ronald George Baker died March 6, 2022. Ron was born July 10, 1954 in Trenton, Michigan to parents Nollie Waldo and Hjordis Rein Baker. He is survived by his wife of 35 years Sharon, son Chadrick Baker, daughters Lacey Ingrao, Mendora Katona, and Bobbi Baker, grandchildren Mark, Mia, and Max Katona and Cassidy Quinn Baker, siblings Richard and Keith Baker and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and brothers Fred and Vance Baker.
Ron served as a sergeant in the United States Air Force from October 20, 1972, until he was honorably discharged August 14, 1976. He also worked for the Jurupa United School District Security.
He joined the California Highway Patrol in December 1977 and served 27 distinguished years retiring as a sergeant from San Gorgonio Pass in November 2004. During his first year on the road, he saved the life of a motorist by administering CPR. While assigned to the CHP Academy Ron organized a group of cadet to start the standing tradition of honoring the fallen officers. During lunch, Ron assembled the cadets in military formation and the marched reverently to the memorial fountain in the center of the quad at the CHP Academy. The cadets knelt and polished every brass plaque of all the fallen CHP Officers throughout the organization’s history. That tradition has evolved into a time honored ceremony.
During his tenure with the California Highway Patrol, Ron served as a K-9 sergeant, drug recognition expert, shooting team investigator, and member of the protective services detail.
Ron enjoyed dancing, traveling, singing, and playing with his grandchildren. He will be missed
