Maria Varela Obituary

Maria Cristina Varela, affectionately known as Titi, passed away peacefully on October 8, 2024, in Los Angeles, California, surrounded by the love of her family. Born on March 24, 1950, in Guadalajara, Mexico, Titi was a beacon of joy and warmth throughout her 74 years of life.

Titi's journey began in the vibrant streets of Guadalajara, but it was in Los Angeles, California, where she would create a life full of love and accomplishment. A proud graduate of Garfield High School in 1969, she would stay at home to help her father care for her younger siblings after her mother's passing.  In the mid 1970's, bringing her dedication and bright spirit she entered the workforce as a clerk at the original Sears in Los Angeles.    Her career evolved as she joined Carabello Furniture Store as a clerk in 1978. In 1980, Titi embarked on a fulfilling career with Los Angeles County, starting at the Hall of Records and later serving the community through the Probation Department until her retirement in March 2006.

Throughout her life, Titi's heart was always with her beloved family. She leaves behind her  spouse, Raul, her loving children, Jose Raul and Gabriela Natalie, and her cherished grandchildren, Kassaundra, Joseph, Daniessa, Klarissa, Zachary, Nicolas, and Savannah. Her legacy continues to bloom through her great-grandchildren, Zailah, Isaiah, and Aaliyah, who will carry her memory forward.

Titi's hands were rarely still, as she expressed her love through the art of crocheting and knitting. She crafted countless blankets, each stitch filled with care and thoughtfulness. Her talent extended to creating beautiful baby outfits for shower gifts, ensuring that every new life was welcomed with the warmth of her handiwork. Titi also found joy in cross-stitching, embellishing blankets and pillows with intricate designs that reflected her meticulous nature.

A passionate Dodgers fan, Titi's spirit lifted with every "Let's go Dodgers!" she cheered, whether from the stands or her room. Her love for the game was matched only by her love for her family, especially her grandkids, with whom she cherished every moment. Savanni, in particular, brought immense joy to Titi's later years.

Those who knew Titi will remember her generous and loving nature. She was a woman whose passion for life was evident in everything she did, from her artful creations to her enthusiastic support of her favorite baseball team. Titi's presence was a comfort to those around her, whether she was sharing a cup of coffee on the porch, knitting in hand, or offering a listening ear over the phone.

As we bid farewell to Maria Cristina Varela, we celebrate a life lived with fervent love and unwavering passion. Her memory will continue to inspire and guide us, just as the blankets she crafted will continue to provide warmth. Titi's spirit, woven into the fabric of her family's lives, will be deeply missed but never forgotten
