Elisio Lozano, affectionately known as the Dusty Rooster, passed away on November 9, 2023, in Bloomington, CA, peacefully in his sleep. He was born on March 3, 1945, in Los Angeles, California, to Emilio and Estella Lozano. He joins his beloved parents, siblings Martha, Beatrice, and Steven, in eternal peace.
Elisio is survived by his sister Virginia, brothers Raymond, Frankie, Gerald (Chino), and Arthur. He is remembered as a devoted father to Leo, Emell, and Diana Lozano. Though preceded in death by his son Gilbert, Elisio's legacy lives on through his grandchildren Brian, Sara, Nicholas, Alejandra, Vanessa, Alyssa, Brandon, JJ, Kingston, and great-grandchildren Hunter, Cameron, and Olivia.
Elisio proudly served in the United States Marine Corps Reserves for several years before transitioning to a career that would become his true passion – music. As the Dusty Rooster, he became a local legend as a DJ for the radio station, sharing his profound love for oldies but goodies and doo-wop with the community.
A man of many talents, Elisio was not only a gifted DJ but also a musician. He had the rare ability to play the trumpet and keyboard simultaneously, showcasing his versatility and musical prowess. Throughout his career, he collaborated with renowned artists such as Richie Valens, Jewel Akins, and Brenton Wood, leaving an indelible mark on the local music scene.
Elisio's generosity and love extended beyond the airwaves, as he frequently played music at the convalescent hospital, bringing joy and comfort to those in need. However, his favorite pastime was undoubtedly spending cherished moments with his grandchildren, creating lasting memories filled with laughter and love.
Known for his captivating storytelling, Elisio had an uncanny ability to captivate everyone around him. His friends and family were always eager to hear his tales, making him the life of any gathering. Elisio Lozano leaves behind a legacy of love, music, and storytelling that will be fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
