Eliseo George Lopez Sr

Eliseo “Alex” Lopez Sr. or, “Papa”, was born on May 25th, 1937 in El Modena, California. He lived until the age of 84 until his passing on Sunday, May 15th in Riverside, California. Starting out from a large family, Alex was one of 12 brothers and sisters. He carved out an adventurous life for himself and in turn, has achieved many accomplishments. Upon joining the Army in his teens and eventually the Marine Corps, Alex traveled across the country and around the globe, including serving in his beloved Japan. A man of determination and dedication, Alex stayed true as a Marine until his last days. He leaves behind sons and daughters, many grandchildren and even great-grandchildren. 

Papa loved playing the guitar and accordion. He enjoyed playing rancheras and other types of Mexican genres with his brothers and friends. In fact, there was one time where his love for music and the military came together when daughter Maria played The Marines’ Hymn on the piano and Papa, at age 83, stood up through the entire song and saluted. In addition, Papa’s love for Japan inspired him to cook many Japanese meals, including one special meal where he ordered all Japanese ingredients and purchased individual hibachi sets and had all of us cook our own authentic food. Papa also shared wonderful times with Helen whom he was deeply in love with. They had known each other since their teens, married and traveled together, and spent many meaningful moments together. 

Alex will be missed by all. We invite you to celebrate his life on what would have been his 85th birthday on May 25th, 2022.
