John Johnson Obituary

John K. Johnson, a beacon of love and generosity, passed away at the age of 61 in Fontana, CA, on February 11, 2024, after a valiant battle with multiple medical conditions. Born on September 8, 1962, in Riverside, CA, John's zest for life and enduring spirit touched all who knew him.

Those who knew John understood that his family was his pride and joy. He leaves behind a legacy of love with his wife and best friend, Susannah, and his sons, Nathan and Keith, who will carry on his values of kindness and hard work. John's sister/friend Sheila Barnes, his nieces Stacy Smith and Sarah Barnes, his great-nephew Robert Mata, and great-niece Shyla Mojica will miss his guidance and friendship. His cousin John Johnson, who was like a big brother to him, along with his brothers-in-law, Jeff Snow and Shane Barnes, who were like true brothers to him, will cherish the memories they made together.

From his early years, John exhibited an unwavering work ethic that would define his character. His industrious nature was evident through his various endeavors, from collecting cans and mowing lawns when he was a child to becoming a Blowout Inspector in the oil industry. He carried this dedication into his roles in home and apartment maintenance, ultimately rising to the rank of Maintenance Supervisor for several large apartment complexes.

John's life was marked by a serendipitous moment when he spotted his future wife, Susannah, while working at a hotel managed by his sister's in-laws .She walked by the window of the office and he always said the moment he saw her he thought "I'm gonna marry that girl one day" That was June of 1986. From that day forward, they embarked on a journey of love and companionship that would last a lifetime. His career path also led him to work as a mixing specialist in a local Cosmetics Company and to a fulfilling 20-year service at UC Riverside, where he retired as a Senior Custodian in July of 2023.

A lifelong fan of the band Journey, John's passion for their music was infectious. He attended over a hundred concerts and could recount every detail about the band's history and trivia with an enthusiastic precision. This love was only rivaled by his fascination with trains—a dream that, had life taken a different track, might have seen him as a conductor.

Aside from his love for music and trains, John enjoyed cooking, travel, and photography. His interests always took a backseat to his primary devotion to his family, but they added layers to the rich tapestry of his life.

John's benevolence and thoughtful nature will be remembered by all, including the countless Journey fans around the world who shared his passion.

His grandparents, Thomas and Ella Snell; parents, Sonny and Marlene Johnson; and brother, Hal Johnson, who preceded him in death, surely welcomed him with open arms at Heaven's Gate.

Throughout his life, John's education, which spanned 13 years in Riverside School District, and the trades he learned from the mentors God placed in his path, shaped him into a man of many skills and a heart full of compassion.

As we bid farewell to John K. Johnson, we celebrate a life lived with purpose, love, and an unwavering commitment to family. His story does not end here, for the impact he made and the memories he created will continue to resonate in the hearts of those he loved and who loved him in return. John's journey on this earth may have concluded, but his spirit will forever JOURNEY on, guiding and inspiring us with every step we take.
